The Refugees are a group of seasoned musicians who love the music of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and do our best to recreate the great songs they have performed over the years. If the Heartbreakers aren't on tour, we're the next best thing!
8/1/08 - Refugees lead singer Jody Greenberg interviewed by Southern Fried Magazine. Click here to see the interview.
6/23/08 - Refugees mentioned in the SF Examiner today! Here is the link to the online version. Go to June 23rd edition, page 4.
5/9/08 - The Refugees will be participating in the Mel Snipes benefit concert at Slims in SF on May 31st, 2008. Mel Snipes, the former lead singer of The Gator Alley Band, was tragically killed last year in a car accident on the way to a show. The Gator Alley Band has set up this special concert to benefit Mel's surviving children.
4/2/08 - New live recordings from the 3/30 show in Emeryville! Check out the music page for live versions of King's Highway, Handle with Care, I Need to Know, Stop Draggin' My Heart Around, and You Don't Know How It Feels. Videos coming soon!
3/25/08 - New photos from the 3/17 St. Patrick's Day show in Sunnyvale. Check out the photo page!
2/24/08 - Bay Street show today is cancelled due to weather. The weather report says "rain, thunder, and wind", hardly the best environment for an outdoor rock concert! We'll reschedule soon.
2/19/08 - Right now there is rain forecast for Sunday's show in Emeryville. Since this is an outdoor show, it will be cancelled if it does rain. Please be sure to check the website to see the status of the show before heading out!
1/24/08 - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers announce 2008 North American Tour! They will be up in the Bay Area in August, venue TBD. Check out TomPetty.com for tour details.
12/20/07 - Just when you thought we only played Petty!....Check out the new live clips from last Friday's show at The Bistro. Go to the music page and scroll down on the player - there are live recordings of the Allman Brothers' Jessica and Jackson Browne's Runnin' on Empty.
12/17/07 - Last Friday's show at The Bistro in Hayward turned out great! Good crowd, tons of fun. A good way to end the year. We'll probably be back at the Bistro in a few months, so we hope to see you all back there again. Don't forget to join the mailing list so we can send you a reminder!
12/5/07 - The last show of the year is coming up on Friday 12/14 at The Bistro in Hayward. Be sure to come check it out, should be a great evening!
11/11/07 - Today's outdoor show at Bay Street is cancelled due to weather. Bay Street tells us that the grass setup area is pretty soaked from last night's rain, and there is still a small chance of more rain. We'll try to reschedule for a date in the near future.
10/29/07 - Our Myspace account seems to have been deleted for no apparant reason. We are waiting to hear from Myspace on what happened. Luckily there was nothing on there that is not available on this site.
10/16/07 - The Destinations show will be on Saturday Nov. 17th. We will also be at Bay Street in Emeryville again on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 11th.
10/3/07 - The 10/6 show at Destinations is postponed - we will update as soon as we know the new date.
9/23/07 - Thanks to everyone who came out for the show at the Quarternote. We had some sound issues during the first set, but we fixed that during the break and second set went great. The band loosened up and we really had a good time. Hope to see you again on 10/27 when we'll be playing there the whole night!
9/15/07 - New show at 7:00-9:30pm on 9/22 at the Quarternote in Sunnyvale. In addition, the 10/5 show has been moved to 10/27 because of double booking issues. Please check the gigs page for all the details. We apologize for all the changes in the Quarternote show dates/times, but unfortunately it is something that is out of our control.
9/10/07 - Bad news: The Race for the Cure show on 9/23 has been cancelled.
The city of San Francisco refused to issue a permit to the Race for the Cure for Justin Herman Plaza allowing live amplified music due to noise concerns. Although they tried to convince the city that there was a difference between us playing with a 1000 Watt PA on a small stage and a Rolling Stones concert, it looks like the bureaucrats have won this one, and there will be no live music at the race this year.
We are disappointed, but hope you will still show up to support breast cancer research.
9/6/07 - The 9/29 show at the Quarternote has tentatively been moved to 10/5, same time.
